Do you want to make a measurable difference to teenagers in school? Do you have an interest in working with teenagers that perhaps come from difficult home lives? We are currently supporting a special needs school in Bath that are looking for people to work full time in their secondary phase as a teaching assistant. Hours are 8:30-3:30, Monday to Friday and term time only.
This school specialises in catering to students with mental health issues or perhaps have attachment disorders or autism. Children at this school can present with difficult behaviours and often take time to put down their barriers. We ideally are looking for people that have previous school experience but more importantly we are interested in anyone that has experience working with special needs perhaps as a youth worker.
What is really important here is that the right people can handle the challenges of working with these students and offer the empathy, understanding required as well as panache to push students to achieve in their education, even when they have no self belief.
Class sizes here are small at around 6 per class, and usually there are equal adults to students per class. The right people will be flexible, able to follow instructions closely and work well in as part of a team. This work is fixed term contract, but can be permanent for the right people and the placement works to benefit both you and the school.
In order to be considered an enhanced DBS on the update service is required either part of an application or via one that you may already hold.
