Maintenance Technician

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding and dynamic academic institution. 

Our client is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Maintenance Technician to support the day-to-day operations of the Centre’s Maintenance Department. The Maintenance Technician will be a key member of a small team alongside the Maintenance Manager and other colleagues and will work with the team to work on for all aspects of maintenance of the Centre estate, plant and equipment.

The Role

Maintenance:

  • Collaborate with the Estates Team to maintain high site standards and safety.
  • Inspect plant, machinery, and equipment regularly and report issues to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Adhere to a maintenance schedule for regular machinery and equipment servicing.
  • Perform routine checks and repairs on fixtures and fittings.
  • Address maintenance issues within capability; escalate complex problems.
  • Clean gutters, drains, gullies, and downpipes.
  • Conduct emergency, reactive, and proactive maintenance tasks at other properties in Oxford.
  • Assist contractors with diagnostics and repairs; refer complex issues to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain and clean fountains and water features.

Administration and Monitoring:

  • Keep detailed records and documents related to Estates.
  • Monitor the Building Management System and respond to faults/issues promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness in plant rooms and the workshop; ensure tools are maintained and accounted for.
  • Move equipment and furniture as required, with help if necessary.
  • Assist with fire drills and respond to fire alarms.
  • Provide out-of-hours cover as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Skills & Experience

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong prioritization and multitasking skills to meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Team player with good computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Proficient in using power equipment, capable of carrying reasonable loads unassisted, and working at heights using ladders and scaffolding.
  • Broad skill set in building maintenance, including fault-finding, diagnostics, and repairs.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in monitoring plant state and interpreting alarms.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant trade qualifications (City and Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent) or electrical/mechanical apprenticeship.
  • Desirable certifications: PASMA, IPAF, First Aid.
