GSL Education is currently seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of SEND Lead in a local school in Bournemouth.

The school offers a non-teaching opportunity to make a significant impact on the development of young people with special educational needs. This role involves collaborating with the SENCO to ensure pupils receive inclusive support aligned with their Education and Health Care Plans. The successful candidate will guide and support class teams and engage with students and families with a solution-focused and adaptable approach.

The school is renowned for its outstanding environment catering to children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, fostering a community-oriented atmosphere dedicated to achieving excellence. The SEN Lead will coordinate the development and implementation of SEN policies to enhance pupil achievement and provide sustainable support strategies.

Ideal candidates possess experience with Key Stage 1 and/or 2 children with SEMH needs. Further information on the role is below:

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the SENCo to guide the strategic direction and growth of Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision in the Academy.
  • Ensure all students with SEN achieve their maximum potential through support in teaching and learning.
  • Liaise with staff, parents, and external agencies to uphold best practices and provide optimal assistance to vulnerable pupils and those with SEN.
  • Assist the Principal and Academy Advisory Committee in shaping SEN policy and provision.
  • Aid staff in understanding SEN needs and integrate SEN objectives into the Raising Achievement Plan. Provide training and support for staff development.
  • Monitor progress of SEN pupils, evaluate teaching effectiveness, and use data to inform resource allocation and improvement strategies.
  • Coordinate provision for SEN pupils through collaboration with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure continuity of support.
  • Promote child welfare, comply with Trust and Academy policies, including data protection, safeguarding, and health & safety regulations.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
  • Previous experience of working in a SEN setting
  • Experience in developing and implementing SEN policies and strategies.
  • Strong understanding of SEN legislation, frameworks, and best practices

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
