GSL Education are seeking a Special Educational Needs and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to work within primary education in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

Job Summary: The SEMH TA will provide support to primary-aged students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. This role involves assisting in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that promotes students' overall well-being and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer one-to-one support and group interventions for students with SEMH needs.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive learning behaviors.
  • Collaborate with class teachers and SENCO to implement individualized support plans.
  • Foster a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with SEMH or a strong interest in supporting children with additional needs.
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor when dealing with challenging behaviors.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Resilience and adaptability in responding to the diverse needs of students.

Please note: This role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful candidates must satisfy all background checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
