Do you have a degree in Science and would love the opportunity to inspire students in your subject?  We are seeking a dedicated Science Cover Supervisor to join our fabulous  team and ensure the smooth operation of lessons in the absence of teachers. This is an ideal role for someone considering a future career in Education as a Teacher and an opportunity to apply for our School Centred Initial Teacher Training Course in September.

The Cover Supervisor will be responsible for supervising lessons for absent teachers to maintain an optimal learning environment. They will allocate, explain, and oversee cover work provided by teachers, ensuring clarity and suitability for students. You will be required to implement the school behaviour management and referral systems to uphold discipline in the classroom. Registering students in all lessons and promptly reporting any in-lesson absences will also be part of the role, liaising directly with teachers to ensure that cover lessons meet high standards.

Requirements for the role include strong organisational skills and effective multitasking abilities, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. While experience in education or a related field is preferred, it is not required.

Responsibilities of a Cover Supervisor:

  1. Supervise classes and deliver pre-prepared lessons in the absence of a teacher
  2. Ensure that students are engaged, motivated and on task
  3. Manage any behaviour issues that may arise
  4. Follow school policies and procedures
  5. Maintain accurate records of student progress

Requirements of a Cover Supervisor:

  • A degree or Level 3 qualification with solid standards of literacy and numeracy
  • Experience working or volunteering with children or young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to manage behaviour effectively
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Flexibility and adaptability

Registrations required to be a Cover Supervisor:

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, but if you do not have one, you can apply for a new one through Educate.
  • You must register with the EWC (Education Workforce Council) to work in Wales.
