This post holder will liaise with Head of Additional Learning Support and Learning Mentor Managers on a daily basis re: student support issues/needs, manage and direct Learning Mentor staff as delegated by the Head of Additional Learning Support.  You will have responsibility for managing additional support for learners in FE, including those with High Needs funding and EHCPs.  The Additional Support Manager will manage a number of Learning Mentors within the team. In this role you will be required to liaise with staff to identify new HNS applicants, apply for funding to the relevant Local Authority and carry out annual reviews for EHCP learners. If there is long term absence of a Learning Mentor in the ALS team, you will be required to pick up some of this work to help manage this. You will provide effective and proactive assistance to members of the College community on all aspects of ALS support.  This will enable the ALS team to deal more effectively with concerns.

Duties and Responsibilities 
The main duties of the post are to be:
  1. Responsible for managing Additional Learning Support across campuses related to learners with a disability  and / or complex needs and those who require more specialist interventions in college for their physical or health need contributing to the improvement of attendance, retention and success rates and student learning.
  2. Responsibility to ensure that Learning Mentors under your guidance identify and add new learners to the EAA wait list for assessment and processing to ensure EAA applications are submitted in time to meet external published deadlines and are in line with assessment outcomes and JCQ rules.
  3. You will ensure that under your direction, staff have access to the Learning Support Plan on ProMonitor.
  4. You will work in partnership with curriculum and student experience teams and managers to ensure identified learners are suitably supported and supported in a timely manner.
  5. You will undertake Annual Review meetings for learners with an Education, Health and Care Plan.
  6. Support the Head of Additional Learning Support to manage physical and financial resources to ensure that adequate funding is in place to support learner’s needs through High Needs funding.
  7. Support the Head of Additional Learning Support to further develop effective and appropriate learner support in all areas of College delivery.
  8. Support the Head of Additional Learning Support to train and develop Additional Learning Support staff, teaching staff and staff new to the College to ensure effective delivery of support services to a consistently high standard.
  9. Manage staff capability and performance addressing any concerns in line with policy and procedures.
  10. Regularly audit deployment of staffing to learners through timetable checks, learning walks and ensure Learning Mentors hold accurate records of learners’ support timetables
  11. Management of assigned Learning Mentors and allocation of tasks and duties as required.
  12. Oversee Additional Learning Support functions in relation to the submission of relevant HNS funding support applications and as required by other external agencies.
  13. Support the Learning Mentor Manager Sensory and ALS Head in tracking and reconciling HNS costs and spend for each LA.
  14. Further develop and maintain links with external agencies, relevant to the support of learners.
  15. Develop and manage systems required to track and monitor support requirements of learners in FE, working within allocated budgets for additional learning support in FE.
  16. Refer to college MIS systems to track student data and provide regular statistical information as required to College Managers and Local Authorities, contributing to Formal Support Boards.
  17. Management of interview and applicant process prior to student admission and review of support needs on course to ensure that appropriate support is identified and implemented in a timely manner for your areas of responsibility.
  18. Arrange Assessments of support needs for learners and ensure their exam access arrangements are recorded and noted on the waiting list for assessment to meet individual requirements and to make appropriate reasonable adjustments.
  19. Work with the ALS management team and Learning Mentors to ensure there is holistic planning and delivery of ALS support and appropriate ‘Learning Support Plans’ are in place.
  20. Ensure that any external staff commissioned to provide services or agency staff are cleared by HR safeguarding requirements before they commence working on site in the college.
  21. Work with the College Information Services department to ensure all records are centrally recorded and available for all staff to use.
  22. Work with ALS team members to ensure learners who require Exam Access Arrangements receive the appropriate support in their exams
