SEMH Teaching Assistant needed for a specialist Alternative Provision in Rugby Immediately

A specialist Alternative Provision in Rugby are seeking a strong and confident SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. The school is a specialist setting for young people with social emotional mental health needs and will involve working with autism. Some students are highly anxious and require a calm and predictable environment to access their education.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be part of a small team assisting a class teacher in delivering lessons to students, as well as providing support outside of the classrooms, while students are in school. This may include working with parents, social workers, and other professionals regarding the students and their needs. Your roles will include, 1:1 work, work in small groups, monitoring the school during lunches and breaks etc.

Due to the needs of the students, there will be an element or personal care (toileting & feeding) that will be required.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience in working with social emotional mental health(anxiety, autism, attachment disorders)
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience working with children and young people
  • Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Experience of using CPI (MAPA, Team Teach etc) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS registered or willing to acquire a new certificate.
  • Can effectively manage behaviour using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Will be kind, caring and patient when dealing with children who require specialist support.
