Job Title: Cookery Teacher/Instructor - SEND (SEMH)

About Us:

Join our dedicated team at an Alternative Provision (AP) school located in Havering. 

We are committed to providing high-quality education and support to our students, who have a diverse range of needs. Currently, we are seeking a Cookery Teacher/Instructor to join us for two days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) to teach Key Stage 3 and 4 students.

Position Overview:

As a Cookery Teacher/Instructor you will play a vital role in delivering engaging and practical cookery lessons to our students. With a maximum class size of seven students per group and a total capacity of 40 students across our five groups, you will have the opportunity to provide personalised support and instruction to meet the needs of each individual.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver cookery lessons to Key Stage 3 and 4 students, catering to a diverse range of abilities and needs.

  • Create engaging and practical learning experiences that promote skill development, independence, and confidence in the kitchen.

  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive and safe learning environment, considering the individual needs of students.

  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to accommodate the varying learning styles and abilities of students within the groups.

  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support their learning and development.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate cookery lessons into the broader curriculum and promote cross-curricular learning opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification.

  • Experience teaching cookery or food-related subjects to secondary school students, preferably in a special educational needs or alternative provision setting.

  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to effectively engage and motivate students with diverse needs.

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in a kitchen environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
