Complex Medical Needs Student Support Assistant

Join the team at a leading Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Westerham, dedicated to providing exceptional education and care to students with diverse learning needs. You will be joining a team who are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Position Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Support Worker to join our team, providing specialized care and assistance to students with complex medical needs. In this role, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure the well-being and safety of our students while supporting their educational and developmental goals.

The position will be full time, long term, starting ASAP and term time only.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized care and support to students with complex medical needs, including administering medication, monitoring vital signs, and managing medical equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to implement individualized care plans and ensure the integration of medical needs into the educational setting.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies or situations requiring immediate attention, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of student health information, medication administration, and any medical interventions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to coordinate care, share relevant information, and address concerns or questions.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare or educational setting with individuals with complex medical needs, preferably within a special education environment, but this isn't essential
  • Certification or training in relevant areas such as first aid, CPR, medication administration, or nursing assistance.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting the well-being and development of students with special needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
