This Pastoral Support Assistant role is aimed at an enthusiastic, empathetic and caring graduate or experienced worker who wants to initiate restorative practices to assist a number of SEMH students (social, emotional and mental health needs) at a Specialist School in Swindon. Therefore if you have an interest in helping those with complex mental health needs, such as anxiety, trauma and emotional dysregulation, then this is the job for you.
Many of the students will have been through severe traumas and there will be a mix of good and non-existing relationships with their parents and families, which lends itself to a diversity of therapies to be employed. Restorative Practices, pragmatism and positive reinforcement will be key skills in this support role in Swindon. Successful psychology graduates will specialise in working with students who have complex spectrum based needs. As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will be instrumental in helping provide the SEMH students with all the tools they need to thrive in and out the classroom.
This Specialist Provision in Swindon has a state of the art Complex Needs Environment, where the Pastoral Support Assistant will have the opportunity to shadow specialised staff such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists. The school are committed to ensuring no student if left behind both pastorally and academically and it will be your responsibility to show this same level of commitment to each pupil.
