We're seeking an exceptional individual to join our vibrant primary school community as our dedicated Pastoral Lead with HLTA responsibilities.

As our school's Pastoral Lead, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. You'll have the unique opportunity to make a real difference in improving attendance rates and enhancing the overall relationship between the school and those facing challenges in attending regularly and achieving their full potential.

Your role is to:

- Provide compassionate pastoral support to students, offering guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear.

- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to identify and address barriers to attendance and achievement.

- Implement innovative strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being.

- Lead interventions and initiatives aimed at supporting students with attendance issues, ensuring every child has equal access to education.

- Take on HLTA responsibilities, providing high-quality classroom support and assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons.

- Experience in pastoral care, preferably within an educational setting.

- HLTA qualification or willingness to work towards obtaining it.

Key Responsibilities of the Pastoral Lead:

  • Provide Emotional Support by offering emotional guidance and support to students experiencing difficulties, such as anxiety, low self-esteem, or behavioural issues.
  • To promote positive behaviour by implementing strategies to foster a positive and respectful school culture, including promoting kindness, empathy, and conflict resolution skills among students.
  • Monitor student attendance closely and intervene early to address any patterns of absenteeism or lateness, working closely with families and external agencies as needed.
  • Safeguarding and Child Protection responsibilities to ensure the welfare and safety of students by adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures, and promptly report any concerns to the designated safeguarding lead.
  • Crisis Intervention to provide support and guidance during times of crisis or emergencies, such as bereavement, family breakdown, or incidents affecting the school community.
  • Collaboration and Partnership to work effectively with teachers, parents, external agencies, and other stakeholders to provide holistic support to students and families, including attending meetings and liaising with outside services.
  • Putting together individual Support Plans to develop and implement personalized support plans for students with specific pastoral needs, ensuring that interventions are tailored to meet their unique requirements.
  • Promote Well-being Initiatives by organising programmes aimed at promoting the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of students, such as mindfulness sessions, well-being workshops, and peer support groups.

  • Assist in developing and implementing effective behaviour management strategies, providing guidance and training to staff members as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to pastoral care interventions, including progress reports, incident logs, and communication with external agencies.
  • Engage with the wider school community, including parents, carers, and local organisations, to foster positive relationships and support the overall well-being of students both inside and outside of school hours.

Essential Requirements:

  • HLTA qualification/ pastoral experience
  • DBS on the update service or issued in the last 12 months.
  • 6+ months experience
  • Safeguarding trained (we offer free CPD)
  • Prevent trained (we offer free CPD)
  • FGM trained (we offer free CPD)
