If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join a dedicated team at an SEMH school in Barnsley as a Teaching Assistant.

With a focus on individualized support and tailored interventions, the school aims to empower students to overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve academic and personal success.

About the role: We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join the team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff members to support the learning and well-being of students with SEMH needs, providing individualised assistance and fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs in the classroom, providing one-to-one or small group assistance as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan), and behavior management strategies to support student progress and engagement.
  • Provide emotional and behavioural support to students, helping them develop coping strategies and social skills.
  • Encourage and motivate students to participate in classroom activities and maintain a positive attitude toward learning.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and resources, adapting activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to monitor student progress and communicate any concerns or observations.
  • Support students during transitions between activities and provide assistance with personal care and hygiene if required.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, either in an educational or care setting, is highly desirable.
  • A compassionate and patient approach, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and provide empathetic support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and respond effectively to challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or a related field are advantageous but not essential.
