SEMH Teacher needed for a specialist Therapeutic School in Coventry

An alternate provision in Coventry is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join their team full-time, starting ASAP on an ongoing basis.

This inclusive and ambitious SEMH School located in Coventry caters for students aged 11-19 with EHCP's or additional needs such as autism and challenging behaviour. They are an independent special school who pride themselves in creating a trustworthy, motivating and nurturing atmosphere where every pupil is encouraged and inspired to achieve their potential and develop a love of learning. In order to seek educational excellence, they maintain consistence with the approach to any issues they are faced with.

You will be responsible for teaching a class of children with additional needs, meaning that you must be able to adjust your teaching methods and the existing curriculum to meet the needs of each individual child. It is important that you help and inspire the children to help them reach their true academic potential! Planning is also involved in this role.

The preferred candidate will have:

• Experience in working with special needs (ASC, MLD, SEMH)
• Minimum 6 months’ experience working with children and young people
• QTS preferred but non-qualified candidates will be considered
• Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum
• Experience of using communication aids such as British Sign Language, Makaton or PECS is advantageous but not essential
• Enhanced DBS registered or willing to acquire a new certificate
• Can effectively manage behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
• Will be kind, caring and patient when dealing with children who require specialist support
