We are seeking a compassionate and proactive SEMH Assistant to join our school team based in Chatham, Kent .The SEMH Assistant will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide support to students with SEMH requirements. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.

Monday - Friday 8:30am-4:00pm

Depending on experience - Salary- £80-£95 a day

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with support plans for students with SEMH needs, under the guidance of teachers and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
  • Provide one-on-one support to students during lessons and activities, helping them stay focused, manage emotions, and engage with learning.
  • Support students in developing social skills, emotional regulation techniques, and coping strategies to navigate challenges effectively.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment by promoting respectful behaviour and conflict resolution skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement behaviour management strategies and interventions tailored to individual student needs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and collaborate on support strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, either in an educational or care setting.
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond effectively to the changing needs and dynamics of the classroom environment.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, social care, psychology, or related fields are desirable but not essential.
