Gi Group are now seeking to appoint an experienced Personal Development Officer to our client based in Rotherham. The Personal Development Officer will be responsible for the creation and delivery of an exciting and engaging programme of personal development activities and events for learners to enhance their educational experience. The postholder will also work with learners to understand their needs in relation to any knowledge gaps and work with leaders to deliver against strategic objectives.

Duties of the Personal Development Coordinator

  • Create a programme of personal development activities, available to all learners.
  • Work with learners to understand key topics.
  • Build effective partnerships with external organisations, who will provide guest speaker delivery.
  • Lead on learner voice activity.
  • Network, collaborate, and build relationships with external organisations and stakeholders to facilitate student led activities and deliver specific activity such as road safety, sexual health, motivation, and growth mindset.
  • Work with colleagues in curriculum and student support to identify needs specific for the individual campus or groups.
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop their cultural capital through engagement with a range of activities both on and off the site.
  • Develop relationships with key curriculum staff to ensure that positive behaviours are developed throughout the campuses.
  • Lead on organising and overseeing the Students' Union Team, ensuring they are engaged in developing clubs and societies influenced by the learners' voice.
  • Ensure that all events and activities meet health and safety requirements, including the coordination of effective risk assessments.
  • Work in a trauma informed way that supports connection and builds a psychologically safe environment for learners.
  • Function as triage when appropriate, addressing and where possible working through any learner barriers in order to facilitate learner take-up and engagement with other specialisms within the Student Support Team.
  • Refer to and liaise with the designated LAC Lead, Safeguarding Leads, Wellbeing Mentors, and the wider staff as appropriate to ensure support is in place and that progress and information is shared appropriately with relevant personnel, both external and internal in line with procedures and practices.



Role Criteria

  • Experience of working in an educational environment.
  • Experience of working within a support, counselling, or mentoring role.
  • Experience of organising cross-college events.
  • Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy (or equivalent) or willingness to undertake.
  • Level 2 Guidance or Counselling qualification.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection, Equality and Diversity, and Safeguarding.
  • Knowledge of quality standards for guidance work.
  • Work in a professional and confidential manner with a high degree of integrity and flexibility.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people receiving education and training.
