Fixed Term 12 Months
Part Time 30 hours per week
Do you have a great rapport with children and young people? Are you passionate about supporting them to participate and share their views about decisions that impact their lives? If so, this job could be exactly what you're looking for...
DIAS
We help children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their parents and carers to understand legal processes that impact their access to education, health and social care. We support them to work in partnership with school, the local authority and other agencies, whilst developing their knowledge, confidence, and self-esteem, enabling them to feel empowered, understood and to participate effectively. We help with exploring solutions to challenges and difficulties encountered by children and young people with SEND, and to help them to be involved in the decisions that impact them.
We are a strong supportive team who work collaboratively to support each other and to ensure that the service works effectively to meet the needs of children and young people and their families.
The Role
The CYP worker’s role is to help children and young people to develop their skills and confidence in expressing their needs, views and wishes, and taking an active role in the processes and decisions that impact their lives.
This involves:
- supporting young people individually to participate in SEND Processes, including engaging with school, health and social care teams.
- supporting the development and delivery of training programs for parents, carers and professionals.
- working with others in the team to raise awareness of the importance of CYP participation, and to develop a better understanding of their priorities and preferences around how they wish to be supported.
- providing feedback to help develop the strategic work of DIAS in expanding and improving the support provided to children and young people across the county.
About You

You will be enthusiastic, innovative, highly motivated and empathic. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be computer literate and confident with social media. You will need to be able to work independently and flexibly, with an ability to travel.
Knowledge of the relevant educational legislation for children and young people aged 0-25 with SEND, along with knowledge of the law relating to disability discrimination, exclusion, and bullying would be an advantage.
You will be able to work to confidentiality protocols and have a clear and demonstrable understanding of safeguarding responsibilities, whilst respecting the confidential and sensitive nature of information that is shared with you.
Whilst you will need to use your own initiative and be able to work independently, you will also be an excellent team player and work well with others to ensure that children and young people achieve the best outcomes.
