We are working with a large ‘Good Ofsted rated’ special school in Wandsworth SW19 postcode, who are looking to recruit experienced SEN Teaching Assistants and Residential Support Workers. These roles are long term positions.

They will begin with a probationary period and if this is passed there are long term contracts available with weekly shift work and potential permanent contract offers further down the line, starting on an agency worker basis. 

The school caters for children and young people who have cognitive disabilities and complex support needs. The ideal person will need to be flexible as you will be working across the Primary and Secondary departments, and residential for outside school shift hours.

The school is split into 3 main areas, ASD, VI and HI. Please see below a breakdown of the requirements for each of these roles.

Your working days will be Monday – Friday, 8:30-4.

It is essential that you have previous experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs, are confident in supporting children with HI , VI and multi-sensory impairment and able to provide personal care.

Ongoing training will be provided at the school as well as refresher training throughout the year. You will need experience in any of the 3 areas below:

VI - Visual Impaired support role:

  • Experience in using braille machines advantageous but not required.
  • Experienced in supporting blind or Visually Impaired children or adults.

ASD - Autism Support roles:

  • Any relevant life experience in working with children or adults with ASD or Moderate to Severe learning difficulties.
  • Any school or Nursery work experience relevant.
  • Behaviour management skills advantageous.
  • Any qualification in Health and Social care or Teaching and Learning in schools also advantageous.
  • Advantageous to be from a care background.

HI - Hearing Impairment/Role supporting Deaf children:

  • Any experience in using BSL (British Sign Language) or advanced Makaton is advantageous.
  • Any direct experience in working with adults of children who are Hearing Impaired or Deaf required.
