SEN Support Workers, Hove, BN3. A great role for experienced support workers to support an engaging 5 year old boy who has Cerebral Palsy. £17.00 to £19.00 gross per hour

Driver Essential? Yes, a car will be provided whilst on duty so you must have a valid UK driving licence and for car insurance purposses you must be over 21 years old. 
Essential: One year plus experience supporting young children with physical and learning disabilities. Enhanced DBS check OR happy to obtain one. non-smoker/vaper. Experience working within a family home environment.* Female support workers only

Days & Hours: 30 hours per week, covering a mixture of days, sleeping nights, and weekends

About this client/child: Will is 5 years old and lives with his mum and twin. He has a lovely relationship with his brother who is an incredibly caring and helpful little boy. Will is very cute and engaging.  He loves being around others; he attracts people to him with ease! A few of his favourite activities are climbing, being on his trike and arts and crafts. Will has cerebral palsy. He has some speech difficulties which can make him feel frustrated at times. He eats orally and is not on any medication. He attends a great local mainstream school close to where he lives, He is a wheelchair user, plus using a walker with assistance. He requires all personal care.

Overview of role: There is a detailed rehabilitation programme in place to implement daily after school, and on the days when Will is not at school. You will engage Will in fun play activities, either at home, or out and about. An important part of this role will be helping Will in regulating his feelings of frustration, especially when he is trying to articulate his physical needs and emotions. You need to think outside the box, bringing creative ideas to play time. Before Will’s night time routine he will have tea with mum and his brother and then you will support Will in his shower and teeth brushing.  Once he is cosy in bed, he likes to have stories read to him until his mum comes to tuck him in for the night.  Typical shift pattern: 2.00 pm to 11.00 pm. Sleeping night, and then 07.00 am to 11.00 am During the week, there will be two days when Will does not attend school (days tbc) On these days the hours will be 08.00 am to 8.00 pm , Weekends and School Holidays, 08.00 am to 8.00 pm

Who this job would suit: A creative, support worker who has great ideas and practical tools to help Will to develop his problem-solving skills. Clear boundaries need to be put in place so you will be consistent, confident, and thoughtful in your approach. You will also have oodles of energy and a great sense of humour to keep up with this wee spark!

What’s great about this job: Comprehensive, bespoke training is provided by the rehabilitation team, and ongoing supervision from the case manager and Team Leader.  This will be a great opportunity to share your own experiences but also develop new skills, such as Conductive Education.
