Role Overview:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant specializing in SEMH, you will play a pivotal role in supporting students who require additional assistance with their social, emotional, and mental well-being. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Specialized Support: Offering tailored support and intervention strategies to students with SEMH needs, including those facing behavioural challenges, anxiety, or emotional difficulties. Your expertise in SEMH and familiarity with therapeutic approaches will be instrumental in fostering positive outcomes for students.
  2. Individualized Care: Developing and implementing individualized care plans and behavior management strategies to aid students in effectively managing their emotions and behaviors. Building trusting relationships and providing consistent support will empower students to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.
  3. Collaborative Approach: Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to craft holistic support plans that address the diverse needs of students with SEMH. Your exceptional communication skills and ability to liaise with professionals will ensure a cohesive approach to student care and support.
  4. Promoting Inclusion: Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued, respected, and supported. Your dedication to promoting positive behavior and fostering a sense of belonging will contribute significantly to a positive school culture.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • Relevant Qualifications: A recognized qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or a related field, with a focus on SEMH. Additional training or certification in behavior management, counseling, or therapeutic interventions would be advantageous.

  • Experience: Proven experience working with students with SEMH needs in an educational setting, preferably within a primary or secondary school environment. Experience implementing behavior support plans and therapeutic interventions is highly desirable.

  • Empathy and Understanding: Empathetic and compassionate approach towards students with SEMH needs, with a deep understanding of the challenges they may face. Your ability to connect with students on an emotional level and provide non-judgmental support will be invaluable.

  • Effective Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Your ability to communicate effectively and advocate for the needs of students with SEMH will be essential in ensuring their success.
