The Curriculum Manager- Technical is responsible for ensuring that the delivery of all practical engineering complies with health and safety protocols and is standardised against technical specification.

Or client is fortunate to partner with some of the leading engineering companies in the sector, employing many of the UK’s Future Makers. This role has responsibility to ensure that these apprentices receive the highest standards of tuition in our best-in-class facility.

The post holder will work closely with the Curriculum Manager-Operations, to drive the technical compliance in the foundation qualification and timely completion. Attention to detail and a good understanding of qualifications and apprenticeship Standards will be essential to this role.  The post holder will line manage some of our exception team, ensuring that the team is technically competent and that delivery is engaging and well contextualized. There is also responsibility to design, deliver, procure a programme of training to ensure that tutors’ knowledge remains up-to date and engaging.

The postholder will also be responsible to ensure that all physical resources are maintained at optimum operational capacity, that the workshop learning environment is well maintained and that materials are available.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for safety compliance in the workshop environment.
  • The post holder will work closely with our Health and Safety Officer to maintain standards and compliance.
  • Ensure that apprentices follow health and safety protocols, wear correct PPE and understand the reasons for it.
  • Ensure that delivery of qualifications meet Awarding Organisation, partner employers. This includes schemes of work and all documentation relating to demonstration of specification.
  • To provide technical insight into delivery of qualifications, Standards and trailblazer items for future delivery.
  • Ensure that learner work is stored safely and accurately in e-portfolios and is accessible for IQA.
  • Ensure the professional standards of the workshop are upheld- communicating effectively where redress is required.
  • To work closely with the Curriculum Manager- Operations to ensure the best possible running of the Foundation curriculum.
  • To manage a team of tutors, organising workload, discipline, welfare, absence, holiday cover etc.
  • Provide guidance and support on the induction of new apprentices and the recognition of prior learning.
  • Plan an effective CPD cycle
  • To ensure that the progress of students in the workshop is effectively monitored and managed.
  • To manage and role model effective communication between teaching staff/employers,/apprentices so that operations are effective.
  • Manage the ordering of consumables
  • To create a motivational learning environment by providing stimulating and demanding subject delivery that allows learners to acquire the skills and knowledge
  • To work with the Lead Quality Assurance Manager to facilitate and manage effective Quality Assurance.
  • To ensure teaching and learning is Good or better and compliant teachers’ Standards, OFSTED, LSC, Awarding Body and the Centre’s standards/criteria
  • To maintain learner discipline in compliance with the Centre’s Disciplinary codes and practices
  • To ensure the health and safety of learners and staff is paramount with the Centre’s health and safety policy.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested within the limits of your capability

Technical knowledge and experience

Time Served apprentice, relevant City and Guilds (Part 3) qualification or full Technical Certificate or National Certificate or higher. Skills specific NVQ Level 3 or higher or equivalent.

Teacher qualified (minimum PTTLS), A1 or equivalent qualification (be able to demonstrate working towards may be considered) and a V1 qualification.(or be prepared to achieve V1 within 12 months of being in post)

Business and industry knowledge

Managerial experience within medium-large engineering educational setting.

Background that demonstrates experience in manufacturing/engineering industry or close working relationships with industry (through apprenticeship delivery/T-levels)

Knowledge and experience to contribute actively to decisions to optimize delivery and consult in changing landscape of qualifications.

Teaching/tutoring/mentoring/IQA in engineering or related sector

Expertise in engineering/manufacturing qualifications – to lead onboarding and RPL.
