Overview

● To deliver and ensure a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years.

● To support the Head of Nursery in managing the day to day activities of the setting.

● To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others.

● To develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s development.

● To manage other staff within the nursery. To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Head of Nursery.

Holidays 

● 23 days, excluding bank holidays. Increase with each year of service

Hours of work

● 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Pay

● £28,000 - £39,900, depending on qualifications, experience and nursery FTE size.

Duties and responsibilities

As the Deputy Head of Nursery, you have a significant role in ensuring the best possible Education and Childcare at kinderzimmer.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

● Supporting the Head of Nursery in the day to day management of the nursery

● To be responsible for the efficient running of the nursery and overall delivery of a high quality service

● To ensure that the nursery provides a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times

● To ensure that the nursery plans appropriate activities based on the kinderzimmer curriculum and EYFS that enables children to make individual progress

● To ensure the nursery meets Ofsted requirements at all times

● To manage, supervise and support the nursery staff

● To be the nursery Designated Safeguard Lead (DSL)
● To work with other professionals in the local area for the benefit of children and families

● To ensure all staff understand and work to nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies

● Champion the staff wellbeing of your nursery team

● Take responsibility for planning, which ensures each child is working towards the early learning goals

● To organise the key person system

● To conduct staff appraisals and supervisions as appropriate and to identify staff training needs

● To ensure all records are properly maintained in accordance with the policies and procedures of kinderzimmer

● To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.

● To work in partnership with the Head of Nursery

● To support onboarding for all new members of staff

● To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the nursery aims and objectives

● To delivery nursery tours to prospective parents, as well as other professionals

● To support recruitment responsibilities by interviewing potential employees and making assessments based on suitability for the role and fit for the nursery

● Ensure safeguarding is at the forefront of every action undertaken

Person specification

Essential Skills, knowledge and experience

● A minimum of 2 years recent experience working as a Deputy Manager or Room Leader

● Excellent working knowledge of the EYFS and current Ofsted statutory guidance Desirable

● Ability to coordinate specific specialist areas, such as SENCO

● A commitment to the provision of high quality childcare and customer service to the parents Personal Qualities

● Empathy and understanding of children under five

● Flexibility – occasionally working hours might be changed, e.g. if the setting hosts a Parent’s

● Excellent verbal and communication skills with children and parents

● Ability to write reports and keep clear and accurate records

● Effective team leadership

● Excellent organisational skills

● Administrative and IT skills

● Calm and caring nature

● Ability to lead a team

● Able to work on own initiative Evening Qualifications

● A minimum of Level 3 Childcare qualification, e.g. Level 3 Certificate for the Children & Young People’s Workforce or Children’s Care, Learning and Development

● A positive approach to completing relevant short courses and qualifications

● Some understanding of the importance of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene in the workplace

● EYTS or QTS

● Health & Safety certificate

● First Aid certificate
