Intervention Tutors are deployed in a number of different ways across primary and secondary schools of varying sizes and cultures. One school’s definition of the role can vary greatly from another’s, and it is important to bear this in mind when considering individual vacancies.

Generally, the main purpose of an Intervention Tutor is to enable students who are underachieving to reach their target attainment levels by providing coaching and activities outside of the main activities of the wider student group.

Typically, the role of Intervention Tutor will include the following duties:

  • Leading 1:1 or small group sessions for students in a core subject area
  • Planning and preparing intervention sessions
  • Marking and assessing work
  • Monitoring and reviewing the progress of students
  • Attending departmental meetings
  • Supporting revision sessions
