As a SEND Teacher you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing engaging learning experiences tailored to 11-19 year old students with Autism and SEMH. You will create a safe, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment that fosters both academic and personal growth. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, support staff, and parents, to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to student development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans and learning activities that cater to the diverse needs of students with MLD and SEMH.
- Utilise a range of teaching strategies and resources to engage and motivate students.
- Adapt the curriculum to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Employ effective behaviour management strategies to create a positive and productive learning environment.
- Assessment and Monitoring:
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and identify areas for development.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student achievement.
- Provide regular feedback to students, parents, and the wider team.
- Contribute to the review and evaluation of EHCPs.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, support staff, and parents.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, ensuring open and transparent dialogue.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
- Work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure consistent support for the student.
- Safeguarding and Wellbeing:
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, adhering to school safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
- Provide a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience working with children with MLD and/or SEMH.
- A strong understanding of SEND legislation and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A commitment to continuous professional development.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience with specific interventions for ASD, MLD and SEMH.
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies.
- Experience in using assistive technology.
- Experience with sensory integration strategies.
