Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated ESOL Tutor with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to work with primary-aged students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the vibrant borough of Kensington & Chelsea. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering tailored English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) lessons to children who face additional learning challenges, ensuring they receive high-quality, supportive education to develop their English language skills and boost their confidence.
This role requires a compassionate and flexible approach, with a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment where all children can thrive. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including teaching assistants, SENCOs, and parents, to develop and implement bespoke educational strategies that cater to the individual needs of each child.
Key Responsibilities:

Lesson Planning & Delivery:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging ESOL lessons designed to meet the specific needs of primary-aged children with SEN, adapting materials and approaches as necessary. -
Assessment & Progress Tracking:
Regularly assess students’ progress through formative and summative assessments, keeping detailed records of their development and adapting teaching methods accordingly. -
Differentiation:
Use a variety of teaching strategies to ensure lessons are accessible and engaging for students with a range of SEN, including visual aids, interactive activities, and simplified language structures. -
Individual Education Plans (IEPs):
Collaborate with the SENCO and other staff to contribute to the development and review of students’ IEPs, ensuring goals are achievable and realistic. -
Supportive Classroom Management:
Create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation and promotes confidence, self-esteem, and independence. -
Collaboration with Parents and Caregivers:
Maintain strong communication with parents, caregivers, and other professionals involved in the child’s education to ensure a consistent approach and support for learning at home. -
Inclusion and Safeguarding:
Ensure that all students feel included and safe in the learning environment, adhering to safeguarding policies and promoting an understanding of diversity and respect within the classroom.
Key Skills & Qualifications:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS):
You must have QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a teaching qualification recognized in the UK to work in a primary school setting. -
Experience & Qualification in ESOL Teaching:
A recognised qualification in ESOL teaching (e.g., CELTA, Trinity TESOL, or equivalent) is essential.
Experience in working with primary-aged children, especially those with Special Educational Needs, is highly desirable. -
Experience with SEN:
A solid understanding of a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech and Language Difficulties, ADHD, and learning disabilities, and experience in adapting teaching methods to support these needs. -
Patience, Empathy & Communication:
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Patience and empathy are essential traits for this role. -
Ability to Differentiate Learning:
Skilled in differentiating lessons to meet the diverse learning needs of children, particularly those with language barriers or additional learning challenges. -
Knowledge of Primary Education:
A strong understanding of primary education principles, child development, and learning strategies, as well as familiarity with the UK curriculum and national standards for primary schools. -
DBS Check:
An up-to-date Enhanced DBS check is required (or willingness to undergo one if appointed).
