Enhanced DBS required on the update service full time until July 2026+ £13 - £15 an hour
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Art Technician to support our Art Department at a secondary school in the Borough of Southwark. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting art teachers in delivering high-quality art lessons, preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the smooth operation of the art studios. This role is ideal for someone passionate about the arts, with a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of artistic techniques and materials.
Key Responsibilities:

Preparation of Materials: Prepare and organize materials, tools, and equipment required for art lessons, including paints, brushes, clay, and other media.

Classroom Support: Assist art teachers during lessons, helping students with technical aspects of their work and providing guidance on the use of materials and equipment.

Equipment Maintenance: Regularly maintain and clean art equipment, such as kilns, printing presses, and digital art tools, ensuring they are in good working order.

Inventory Management: Keep track of art supplies, manage stock levels, and place orders for new materials as needed to ensure the department is well-equipped.

Health and Safety: Ensure all health and safety guidelines are followed in the art department, including the safe use and storage of hazardous materials. Conduct risk assessments as required.

Display and Exhibitions: Assist in the setup and takedown of art displays and exhibitions within the school, ensuring students' work is presented professionally.

Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the art department, including maintaining student records, preparing resources for lessons, and organizing department files.

Creative Input: Contribute creative ideas to projects, displays, and exhibitions, and support students in developing their artistic skills.

Liaison: Act as a point of contact between the art department and other departments within the school, as well as external suppliers and service providers.
Person Specification:

Experience: Previous experience working as an Art Technician or in a similar role within a school or educational setting is desirable.

Knowledge: A good understanding of various art techniques, materials, and equipment used in secondary school art education.

Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Proficiency in using digital art tools and software is an advantage.

Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and other staff members.

Flexibility: Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the department and manage workload effectively under pressure.

Qualifications: A background in art or design, such as a degree or relevant vocational qualifications, is preferred but not essential.
