Hearing and vision impairment Teaching Assistant

Role location: Manchester

Starting date: September 2022

Salary: £1,350-£1,600

Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm

30 hours per week/39 weeks per year

Empowering Learning are working with an Ofsted rated 'good' SEND / SEMH school within Manchester. The school provides exceptional schooling for SEND and SEMH young people with a range of complex educational needs.

Our Manchester based school is an all-age specialist Academy for children from 7-19 whose main presenting need is physical but usually associated with additional needs. The school has an excellent national reputation following eight 'good' Ofsted reports. You will need experience of working with children and young people, a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and lots of energy!

To work on a one-to-one basis with a pupil having dual sensory impairments (hearing and vision) individually and in groups, to act as the ears and eyes for the pupil and aid all aspects of communication. To enable the pupil to take the fullest advantage of all that takes place in the school, ensuring full access to the curriculum and to work closely with teachers and other supporting professionals providing support for the pupil in all teaching and learning situations including promoting independence.

The qualities we are looking for include:

• Ability to relate well to children and adults and communicate effectively at all levels
• Ability to deal effectively with students presenting challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques as appropriate
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
• Knowledge and experience of behaviour management and restorative strategies
• Experience of working with secondary aged students with additional needs
