Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability

Location: Sutton, SM1 1DS (With routine travel throughout the estate)

Salary: £66,405 - £72,711 per annum

Our client is a family of specialist education providers for over 2000 pupils and students from nursery to further education across 14 academies and 9 college centres in London, Surrey, Sussex and Berkshire. Supporting their academies and college, they also operate learning support, such as nursing and therapy, and a central business support team which includes Estates, Facilities, Human Resources, Finance and IT.

Pupils and students within the family have a wide range of learning abilities and additional needs including autistic spectrum disorder; speech, language and communication difficulties; social, emotional and mental health; profound and multiple disabilities; and physical disabilities including multi-sensory impairment and complex health needs.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HSE professional to further enhance their career and experience.

The successful candidate will take the lead on all Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability matters across the enterprise including their academies, college centres and central office.

The primary purposes of the role are to promote and develop a positive health, safety and environmental culture across the organisation and positively advance the organisations Sustainability endeavours.

Duties Include:

  • Act as the primary point of contact across the organisation for Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability matters.
  • Develop and implement health, safety and environmental management systems including appropriate policies, processes and safe systems or work.
  • Develop and implement the health, safety and environmental strategy, providing competent, professional advice to OHC&AT.
  • Build positive working relationships with key stakeholder including, but not limited to, Executives, Leadership Teams, Principals, Headteachers, Head of Centres, Directors and other colleagues.
  • Oversee health & safety investigations ensuring accidents and incidents are carried out appropriately, taking responsibility for reporting of injuries to the HSE (RIDDOR)
  • Manage the Health and Safety team ensuring high performance and continuing professional and personal development.

Skills & Experience

  • Have proven knowledge of providing comprehensive and detailed health & safety advice in a complex organisation, ideally within the education sector.
  • Have detailed knowledge of health & safety processes and legislation and other relevant legislation related to the education sector, fire safety and risk management.
  • Have excellent leadership, management and communication skills.
  • Have recognised qualifications, professional membership and proven leadership associated with health and safety, fire safety and risk management.
