Our client is a well-established Special School, serving secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs mainly relating to SEMH but often with other associated needs such as MLD, ASC. The school have development plans for the future to enhance their offer and welcome more students. The students are aged 11-16 and sit qualifications including Functional Skills & GCSEs. Class sizes are between 5-8 students. Experience with any exam board curriculum is welcome. One of the schools development targets is to welcome 17-19 year olds in the near future so if you're experienced in this phase and have expertise to offer, this would be very welcome. Equally the school are very supportive of their colleagues and welcome ECT wishing to complete their induction whilst gaining experience with older students.

If you have previous experience of having worked with learners that have SEMH and have experienced trauma who may have other needs relating to ASC, MLD, etc you would be particularly well-suited for this role. Individuals that are skilled in recognising individual emotional and educational needs and who are able to respond to and create accessible learning activities & opportunities around the needs of learners will be well-suited. Empathy and patience are key character traits sought when considering people to work in such a setting.

If you have already had training in positive behaviour management such as Team Teach / PBM / MAPA and/or THRIVE training we would be particularly interested in hearing from you although we can offer you training if you're successful in being appointed.

It would be great to hear from you if you have…

  • Experience of working with children who have had to overcome barriers and difficult situations

Fun & rewarding are the easiest words to use. The school is really open-minded to the background of the applicant, but to fit in with the current teaching staff team if you're good at your job with good subject knowledge, you work hard and you're happy to be flexible in going the extra mile, you'll be perfect
